Searching Eternal Joy

My heart often seeks
That one feeling, that little seed
That will bring to me
Eternal Joy

But on this ethereal exploration
A question often prompts intriguing my present notions
That what is joy?

Is it the eternity in the smile of your little brother
Who plays peak-a-boo making mischief and clutter?

Is it the hug of the loved one?
When you present them with that special complement
For their labours on the special task that they had meant.

Or is it that smile of your elder sister?
When she would know how you would miss her
On her departure to the house of her newlywed husband.

Could it be the twinkle in the eyes of a friend?
Who sees you after a long hiatus of some five days or less.

Could it be his excitement to share?
To vent out, to play around or to laugh on our despairs.

I often wonder if it could be the tears
Of the sister who has looked around for her little one for million years.
Could it be her heart swollen with joy?
For when she turns around this time
Her little one stands to play with her toy.

Or could the eternity of joy be collapsed
In that one moment
When your lover comes home
After a long thunderous storm.

  2. Eternal joy is knowing that you have all of them around you in the present moment. Live it. It often takes too many good deeds, many lives, to have all our loved ones around. Having them around is eternal joy.

Thank you for writing this one.

  3. The format of this poem as questioning works well for the metaphysical nature of the poem. And my answer would be "all of the above" because for me it happens only in the present moment..
